Keep Pink Mold in Your Shower at Bay!

One of the toughest items to eliminate in any shower is pink mold. Showers can stay moist for hours giving pink mold an opportunity to grow back quickly. Pink mold can be unsightly and is the result of bacteria in your shower. It is not inherently dangerous to humans, but buildup can be tough to remove over time, and harsher chemicals can damage tile depending on the type of tile.

One of the best ways to stay on top of the pink mold is to use backing soda, water, and a little dishwashing soap. We prefer blue Dawn soap. Combining these should create a paste-like consistency that you can use to scrub the needed areas. We recommend using a microfiber cloth as an applicator, as it will prevent any scratching. Rinse the shower after to remove traces of the paste. Follow up with a Vinegar and water mixture of about half-and-half, let it sit for a few minutes, and rinse again. It is important to make sure whatever tile or stone you have in your shower will be permissive to such treatment. Some stones, such as marble and travertine, are very delicate and should not have this harsh treatment as it can damage their polish.

Regular maintenance cleanings will help prevent pink mold from returning, as the bacteria can feed on any soap scum buildup. Drying the surface each time will also help prevent moisture from building up. These tips will help reduce the amount of pink mold but may not eliminate it entirely.
